In the beginning this role was part-time work experience, alongside my college course. I was creating digital graphics and posters, which also Included the redesign of the Plant Shop website to show updated information, I suggested adding Webflow e-commerce functionality. The website launched in April 2020, just before our first COVID-19 lockdown and the website was one of the few areas of the council that was still bringing in money and creating jobs, such as delivery drivers and order pickers.
Working on this project was a technical challenge for me. I had to make sure the process between the user clicking "purchase" and the order going out for delivery was as smooth as possible. I soon realised that the native Webflow order fulfilment system was not going to be smooth enough for taking multiple orders per minute. I took the decision to build an Airtable fulfilment system where different teams can access different tables and see information that is relevant to them. For example, the item pickers would see a list of items to pick and the postcode of the order, then check off each order as it is picked. The delivery team could see another table that showed the order address and customer contact information.
